King Felix Survives in Arlington

You know you are a great pitcher when you can surrender just 2 runs on 5 hits across 6.2 innings when you do not have your best stuff. That is exactly what King Felix did tonight. Hernandez struck out 4 Rangers, but only issued 1 free pass. He demonstrated good command of his pitches, as 71 of his 114 pitches found the strike zone.

The 29-year-old right-hander has had a great start to the 2015 season. We have all heard plenty of talk about how motivated he is following being robbed of the Cy Young Award last season, and so far he has exceeded expectations. Felix is 4-0 on the season, and has posted a minuscule 1.82 ERA across 34.2 innings. His 36:6 strikeout to walk ratio is jaw-dropping. Hernandez is well on his way to winning the 2015 Cy Young if he can stay healthy.

On a side note, King Felix passed Jamie Moyer this evening for the most innings pitched in a Mariners’ uniform. All Hail the King! Hernandez will get the ball next for the Mariners in the opener of a 3-game series against the Angels on Monday.
