David Ross

Going into the 2015 season, if Mike Zunino were to get hurt, the catcher for the Seattle Mariners would be……Jesus Sucre. No offense, but you need a veteran backup behind the plate.

Ross is the best guy on the free agent block and should be on the Mariners radar.

He had his worst year, defensively and offensively speaking in 2014, but in a limited, supportive role, there is no reason why Ross couldn’t flourish. His numbers are not fantastic, but he does hit lefties well and wouldn’t be called on to start all that often.

His greatest gift to this club would be his leadership and his mentoring of the younger players.

I’m not sure if he would even have an interest in coming to Seattle. It sounds like whatever team lands Jon Lester will actively seek to acquire Ross as well.

But if that team doesn’t go for Ross, the Mariners should look at bringing him in to help with the young pitching staff and help further the development of Zunino.
