The sleeper player this year for the Mariners rotation has to be James Paxton. Coach Lloyd McClendon felt like he received a very good acquisition to his rotation when Paxton returned from the DL, and fantasy owners couldn’t agree more.

Paxton is currently carrying a 2.06 ERA on the year with 1.05 WHIP and 54 Ks in 65.2 IP. His last outing against the Angels turned out to be a loss, but his pitching was outstanding going 6.2 Innings, striking out eight batters, and only giving up four hits. He may have given up three earned runs, but two of them were handed to him after the bullpen gave up a three run homerun.

If the rotation remains the same for the final week, Paxton looks to take the mound Monday against the Blue Jays. Toronto has yet to see the tall lefty this year, so expect Paxton to shock the lineup with his pitching arsenal. He is only owned in 46% of fantasy leagues, so go out there and pick him up if he’s available. Below are the fantasy projections for Paxton’s last start of the regular season.

WEEKLY FANTASY PROJECTION: JAMES PAXTON
