Hisashi Iwakuma and Kyle Seager End the Mariners Skid
The Mariners can breathe a sigh of relief as they end their 5-game skid and keep themselves above .500 and in 3rd place in the American League West.
Hisashi Iwakuma was dealing for 8 innings, striking out 6 and allowing one earned run while giving up only six hits to the Rangers.
On the offensive side, Kyle Seager decided to go 4-4, drive in 3 runs, and play solid defense to secure a Mariners victory.
All in all the Ms cashed in with 13 hits last night, each starter getting a knock aside from Robinson Cano and Brad Miller, though Cano did reach base via the walk.
What impressed most in last night’s game was the plate discipline. The Mariners walked twice, and only struck out three times. For a team that has recently struggled to force pitches in the zone, they worked counts last night and didn’t chase out of the zone or sit on fringe pitches.
The team now sits at 35-34, still over .500, and still ahead of the Texas Rangers in the division.
They also remain 1.5 games back in the Wild-Card standings.
