Yankees Notes

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), we aren’t going to get to see Masahiro Tanaka during this series. The imported pitcher had been speculated, briefly, to be coming to Seattle before making a deal with the Yanks.

  • Yankee’s outfielder Brett Gardner took a pitch off the foot in last week’s series against the Angels, and missed Sunday’s start. While X-rays came back negative, this might be a chance for us to see another former Mariner, as Ichiro Suzuki will likely take over the spot if Gardner can’t play.
  • Michael Pineda is still serving his suspension, so we won’t be privy to any pine-tar antics this time around.
  • In other former-Mariner news: Mustachioed shortstop Brendan Ryan is making a rehab stint after a spinal nerve injury from spring training. We won’t see him this time around, but he should be back very, very soon.

    • Oakland is in Arlington this week to take on the Texas Rangers for a three-game series. This would be an ideal time for these two teams to battle out and give the Mariners a chance to play catchup after losing all that ground during the streak.
    • The LA Angels are at home against the Indians this week. The Indians are off to a struggling 11-14 start, but hopefully they can fend off the Angels for at least a few games.
    • The Astros are hosting a two-game set against the NL East Washington Nationals. The Nats have won three of their last five and are hoping to move up in the standings with a few quick wins in Houston. Ideally the Nats would also keep the Astros off of Seattle’s back, as the M’s are only up by two games.
