The Seattle Mariners came from behind late again Tuesday, but also got some help from instant replay as an erased double play extended an inning and gave the M’s life.
The call in question came in the 8th. Jabari Blash hit what should have been an inning-ending double play, with one out and the bases loaded. But Seattle manager Lloyd McClendon challenge the call and it was overturned when the umpires discovered that second baseman Andrew Romine had in fact never had control of the ball prior to dropping it and turning the double play.
The bases remained loaded, no out was recorded, a run scored and the inning continued.
Xavier Avery walked to bring in another run and Mike Dowd was hit by a pitch to bring in the go-ahead run. The Mariners then added four more runs in the 9th for good measure.
Scott Baker struggled on the hill for the Mariners, allowing five hits and five runs (though only two of them were earned) in 3 IP of work.
The Mariners are back in action again Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs at 7:05 pm PDT. Scott Wolf will get the start for Seattle.
