The 2011 Season:

Greg Halman did not break Spring Training in 2011 on the 25-man roster. He started the year in Triple-A Tacoma.

But, on June 3, 2011, he was called up to the M’s to replace a struggling youngster named Michael Saunders. Yes, the same Michael Saunders who has been struggling on and off for the last three seasons. He needs to get his act together in 2014.

After taking the Condor’s spot on the Major League roster Halman played in 35 games for the M’s.

For someone still considered a rookie, his triple slash was far more respectable than in 2010: he hit .230/.256/.345. He had 20 hits, two doubles, a triple, two home runs and 6 RBIs. He also stole five bases. Unfortunately, like so many young guys adjusting to Major League pitching, he only walked twice and struck out 32 times in 91 plate appearances. That 33% K rate was too much.

But Halman expected to have the 2011 offseason to improve his pitch recognition and contact rate at the plate.
