Mariners Prospects: Stats From Winter Leagues

The Hot Stove is officially warming up. We should continue to hear more and more rumors about who the Mariners will bring in or try to bring in this offseason over the next few weeks.

But while all of this is going on, many young prospects from each organization and many international players are competing in various leagues around the world. Some, trying to get better in hopes of making the MLB club. Others, trying to get noticed in hopes an MLB team will sign them.

Each week, I give you a quick update as to how the Mariners prospects in these leagues are doing. Let’s take a look. (ALL STATS THROUGH GAMES OF 11/17/2013)

Arizona Fall League

The Arizona Fall League came to a close this week with the Surprise Saguaros defeating the Mesa Solar Sox for the title. The Peoria Javelinas (where the Mariners players played) finished in last place in the West Division with a record of 12-19.

Kyle Hunter– In eight games for the Peoria Javelinas, Hunter was 0-3, with a 8.10 ERA in just 16.2 IP, giving up 29 H while walking seven and striking out 12.

Dominic Leone– In 11 games for Peoria, Leone was 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in 12 IP, giving up 14 hits, while walking one, striking out 15 and recording six saves in six tries.

Carson Smith– In five games for Peoria, Smith had a 12.60 ERA in 5 IP, with a save. He has four walks, four strikeouts and four wild pitches.

Brandon Maurer– Maurer finished with a 1-2 record, with a 5.95 ERA in six starts. He walked 12 and struck out 17.

Chris Taylor– In 18 games for Peoria, Taylor batted .294 (20-68), with an OBP of .351 with four doubles, a triple, homer, five RBI and five stolen bases.

Patrick Kivlehan– Patrick batted .164 in 18 games (10-61) with a homer and 5 RBI.

Stefen Romero– Romero finished the AFL season with a .212 average (14-66) with a couple of homers and six RBI.

Venezuelan Winter League

Mayckol Guaipe– In ten games with Caribes de Anzoategui, Guaipe has pitched 10.1 innings and has an ERA of 8.71 allowing 11 runs including three homers while walking five and striking out seven.

Logan Bawcom– Bawcom is 1-2 with a 8.22 ERA in ten games for Cardenales de Lara. He is also 1-for-3 in save opportunities.

Carlos Misell– In 9.2 IP in 11 games for Cardenales de Lara, Misell is 2-2 with a 4.66 ERA with six walks and six strikeouts.

Anthony Vasquez– In six starts for Cardenales de Lara, Vasquez is 0-4 with a 6.04 ERA allowing 29 hits in 22.1 IP while striking out 16.

Erasmo Ramirez- In his first start for Cardenales de Lara, Ramirez went five scoreless innings, walking one and fanning six.

Cruz Pereira– In four innings over five games, Pereira has yet to allow a run while surrendering just one hit. He has walked four and struck out none.

Jesus Montero– Montero is batting .293 with a homer and 13 RBI in 21 games with Cardenales de Lara.

Gabriel Noriega– In 28 games for Cardenales de Lara, Noriega is batting .229 with 11 runs scored and four RBI and has walked nine times.

Jesus Sucre– In nine games for Leones del Caracas, Sucre is batting .143 (4-28).

Jesus Ugueto– Ugueto has came into one game as a defensive replacement and has no at-bats.

Dominican Winter League

Miguel Olivo– In 16 games with Leones del Escogido, Olivo is batting .163 with an OBP of .293, a homer and eight RBI.

Leury Bonilla- In his first game with Leones de Escogido, Bonilla was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Jonathan Arias- In two appearances with Leones de Escogido, Arias pitched 1.1 IP, walked three, hit a batter and allowed four runs.

Abraham Almonte- In hist first four games with Leones de Escogido, Almonte is batting .273 with four walks and two runs.

Nate Tenbrink– In seven games with Estrellas de Oriente, Tenbrink is 1-for-25 with a run scored and an RBI.

Hector NoesiIn five starts for Tigres del Licey, Noesi is 1-1 with a 2.82 ERA, seven walks and 21 K’s.

Carlos TriunfelIn 10 games for Tigres del Licey, Triunfel is batting .200 (4-20) and has walked twice.

Carlos Peguero– In seven games for Gigantes del Cibao, Peguero is batting .296 with two homers, 7 RBI and 3 SB.

Ketel Marte- In three games with Gigantes del Cibao, Marte has managed one official at-bat. He has been used as a pinch-runner, scoring twice.

Mexican Pacific League

Alex Liddi– In 25 games with Tomateros de Culiacan, Liddi is batting .239 with three HR, 11 RBI and 29 strikeouts.

Kalian Sams– In 22 games with Algodoneros de Guasave, Sams is batting .192 with four HR and 13 RBI, slugging .410.

Australian Baseball League

Blake Holovach– In three games for the Adelaide Bite, Holovach is 0-2 with a 3.00 ERA with 12 K’s.

Min-Sih Chen– In his first appearance for the Bite, Chen pitched three innings allowing one run on four hits.

David Holman-In three starts for the Bite, Holman is 1-1 with a 1.72 ERA.

Brock Hebert– In eight games for the Bite, Hebert is batting .194 with a walk, three steals and two runs scored.
