The Mariners are currently preparing to host the A’s on Friday nigh in the home opener at Safeco Field, but tonight we will take a fond look back at their opening set against the Rangers.

The Seattle Mariners had a very successful start to the 2016 season, taking two of three games from the Texas Rangers this week in Arlington. There are a ton of fresh faces in the M’s clubhouse, and they all played up to their potential in the opening series of the year.

Tonight we will take a closer look at what went right and what went wrong for the Mariners against the reigning American League West champs. Thankfully, there was plenty to cheer about.

The season got off to a bit of a rough start on Monday, as the M’s fell to the Rangers 3-2. Poor defense and an inability to cash in with runners in scoring position hurt the Mariners.

Things turned around in a big way on Tuesday, as Seattle won 10-2 against Texas. The Mariners utilized the long ball, as they combined to tally four home runs in the blowout win. The outcome was never really in doubt, which always makes for an enjoyable game to watch.

The Mariners stayed hot on Wednesday, winning 9-5 in the heart of Texas to take the opening series of the year. Seattle trailed 5-4 heading into the top of the 9th, but rallied for 5 runs to push ahead in the final frame. This was arguably the most exhilarating comeback since the Mariners fought back to win in the 9th against the Boston Red Sox in August of 2014.

Now that we have recapped the outcomes, let’s delve deeper into the games themselves. First we will take a look at Robinson Cano and his phenomenal start to the 2016 season.
