Lineup and Thoughts…Olmos Starting, Marte Hurt

After firing Jack Z on Friday morning (afternoon to me on the East Coast), the Mariners are 2-0! That brings the season record to 61-69. The M’s currently sit 11.0 games back in the American League West race while they sit 7.0 back in the wild card chase. The M’s two consecutive wins have pulled them into a tie with the White Sox, which is nice because the M’s are now ahead of the A’s, Red Sox, and Tigers as they try to avoid the worst record in the American League. A win today and the M’s will be ahead of Chicago as well.

Here’s the lineup for today’s series finale. The M’s will go up against lefty Jose Quintana.

My thoughts, as always, appear below the lineup:

No Ketel Marte today. Marte left Saturday’s game with a mild hamstring strain and is not starting today. The M’s need him in the future. He’s been a lightning rod at the top of the order so hopefully he’s alright and able to play soon.

Guti hitting fifth. You’ll never hear a bad word about Guti from this writer. I love lefties pitching because it means the artist formerly known as “Death to Flying Things” gets to play.

John Hicks catching. Hicks made his major league debut yesterday, at third base, ironically enough. We’ll see him behind the plate this afternoon.

Edgar Olmos starting. This is the big news of the day. Olmos is starting, which means Vidal Nuno will start tomorrow against the A’s. Tomorrow should be a Happy Felix Day. But Lloyd is attempting to keep Felix fresh for September. I’m all in favor of it. Look toward the future, Lloyd!

Go M’s!
