Mariners News: Cano Back in Lineup For Finale
By Brady Farkas
The Mariners take on the Angels this afternoon with a chance to pick up another game on the Halos in the AL West standings. The Astros are currently taking on the Yankees, and an M’s win and a Houston loss could put the Mariners just 7.0 games out in the division race.
To the lineup:
My Initial Reactions:
1. Felix Hernandez is on the mound. The M’s need to win most series’ they play from here on out to stay relevant. This is especially true within the division. They need their best on the mound, and they have that today. It’s as good a recipe for a series win as is possible.
2. Robinson Cano is back. Say what you want about Cano’s season thus far, but yesterday was scary after he was hit in the head by an errant warm-up throw. He is back playing today, and the M’s need him to stay hot.

3. I love Franklin Gutierrez. Guti is in the lineup against a lefty in Hector Santiago. This gives the Mariners some lineup flexibility and helps give them a competent RH bat.
4. I don’t like Willie Bloomquist playing. I actually like Willie as a whole, but in this case, with Felix on the mound, the M’s need their best lineup. I think that would have been Trumbo at 1B and Seth Smith in the lineup in LF, with Guti in RF.
5. Mike Zunino is swinging the bat much better. He singled to center yesterday, he homered in the ninth inning. Maybe Edgar is making a difference.
This is a huge one. Go M’s!
