Seattle Mariners Winter League Update

All but two of the various winter league organizations around the world are in full swing. The Australian and Puerto Rican leagues begin in the next week or so and it’s unknown at this point if there are any members of the Seattle Mariners organization playing in these leagues.

Each Sunday night, we will update you on the latest stats of Seattle Mariners players throughout the various Winter Leagues. *- All stats are through the games of October 26, 2014 unless otherwise noted.

Let’s begin tonight with the Mexican league, which only has one player from the Seattle Mariners organization, currently.

In the Mexican League (Liga Mexicana del Pacifico), James Gilheeney is playing for the Naranjeros de Hermosillo. In his first three starts*, Gilheeney is 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA. He’s allowed 12 H over 15 IP, striking out 12 and walking one.

* Hermosillo had a game in progress at posting, Gilheeney was not the starting pitcher however.

The Dominican League also features one Mariner for now. 1B Jordy Lara is playing for Aguilas Cibaenas. In two games, he’s 1-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI.

Liga Venezuela Beisbol Profesional (Venezuelan League)

The Mariners have seven different players on five of the eight teams in this winter league.

Tigres de Aragua

Ji-Man Choi and Kyle Hunter are on the Tigres. Choi is batting .273 in his first nine games of the season with seven runs scored, a homer, 4 RBI and 6 BB.

Kyle Hunter has pitched 3.1 IP so far with 3 K and has allowed two hits including a homer.

Rayder Ascanio made his Venezuelan League debut as a pinch runner and scored a run.

Cardenales de Lara *Game was in progress

Gabriel Noriega is batting .314 in his first 14 games with eight runs scored, two doubles, a triple and 5 RBI.

Osmel Morales has faced three batters, walking one and allowing hits to the other two. He has an undefined ERA as he didn’t record an out and two of those runners scored.

Bravos de Margarita

Manny Pina is batting .256 with four doubles, a homer and 5 RBI, as well as and four runs scored in his first 11 games with the Bravos.

Moises Hernandez has only pitched 9 IP and allowed 12 hits and nine runs for an ERA of 9.00.

Caribes de Anzoategui *Game was in progress

Mayckol Guaipe has a 2.25 ERA in his first 8 IP. He’s allowed six hits, three walks and two earned runs while striking out four.

Leones del Caracas *Game was in progress

Victor Sanchez is on the roster for the Lions. In his first three starts, Sanchez has no record with a 4.15 ERA in 13 IP. He has allowed 14 H and 4 BB while striking out 10.

Arizona Fall League

The Surprise Saguaros are off to a 7-10 start and are a game back in the AFL West Division. The Saguaros are comprised of prospects from the Rangers, Reds, Red Sox, Padres and Mariners.

Patrick Kivlehan: .288/.383/.577, 13 G, 10 R, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 7 BB

Matt Anderson: 5 G, 7 IP, BS, 14 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 0-1, 10.29 ERA, .412 BAA, 2.29 WHIP

Matt Brazis: 5 G, 6.1 IP, BS, 7 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 1-0, 4.26 ERA, .292 BAA, 1.58 WHIP

Stephen Landazuri: 5 G, 10 IP, BS, 18 H, 9 ER, 5 BB, 7 K, 1-3, 8.10 ERA, .409 BAA, 2.30 WHIP
