Mariners Scoreboard Watching In The Hunt For Teal October

Earlier today, we launched a new segment here on Sodo Mojo. Something we call The Hunt For Teal October. Check out Jack’s post here, and be sure to check back everyday at 9 AM PDT through the end of the regular season as we bring you a different playoff push-themed story, as we try to excite the fan base even more for this run.

The Seattle Mariners are trying to make it to the playoffs for the first time since 2001 and looking to secure their first winning season since 2009 with a win tonight.

But the Mariners started the night two games back of both the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics for the two AL Wild-Card spots.

The Los Angeles Angels did the Mariners a solid tonight, pulling their starters and playing virtually all backups tonight in the series finale with the M’s.

As the Mariners play down in LA tonight, we will keep you updated on the other scores that impact the wild-card race.

Texas 7, Oakland 2

The Texas Rangers beat the Oakland A’s 7-2 in the finale of their series. Sonny Gray lasted only five innings for Oakland, giving up eight hits and five runs.

The A’s stay home now to face the Philadelphia Phillies (70-82).

Royals and Tigers Idle

The Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers were both off today. They start a three-game series against each other in Kansas City tomorrow. The Tigers hold a 1/2 game lead over the Royals for the AL Central Division.

Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer and Rick Porcello will take the mound for the Tigers against Jason Vargas, James Shields and Jeremy Guthrie for the Royals.

The Royals then head to Cleveland where they will first have to finish a suspended game in which they are down by two runs in the 10th inning. Things could get very interesting in the AL Wild-Card chase this weekend.
