Seattle Mariners Lose To Another No Name Arm

facebooktwitterreddit

Just when you thought things were going well for the Seattle Mariners, they return home Monday and get stymied by a no-name arm for the ga-gillionth time this season.

Texas Rangers RHP Miles Mikolas allowed only three hits in eight scoreless innings as the Rangers opened the three game series with a 2-0 win Monday.

Roenis Elias struggled with his command at times, walking four but allowing only three hits and one earned run while striking out six in 5 IP. He threw 102 pitches and turned it over to the Mariners bullpen.

Brandon Maurer allowed an insurance run in the 7th. But with the way the Mariners played in Boston this past weekend, coming from behind in all three games, a two run lead seemed like nothing.

Perhaps it wasn’t big enough to get excited about. Perhaps that is way they allowed another sub-.500 pitcher to look like a Cy Young candidate.

Mikolas allowed only three hits while walking only one and striking out five in his 8 IP of scoreless ball. He needed only 92 pitches to earn his 2nd win of the season (2-5). Even with the eight shutout innings, Mikolas’s ERA for the season is still at 6.54.

With the loss, the Mariners slip to just a half game lead over the idle Detroit Tigers for the 2nd AL Wild-Card spot.

At 71 wins, the Mariners have already equaled the total number of wins from 2013. They look to begin improving on that mark Tuesday as the series with the Rangers continues.
