The New York Yankees will travel to Safeco Field for the first time this year when they play the Seattle Mariners for three games this week. This will be the second series against the Yankees on the Mariners schedule this season. Seattle took a trip to the Bronx at the end of April, winning the first two games. A rainout caused the final game of that series to be pushed back to June, but the Mariners won that game as well. While Seattle’s season average is $64.58, each game of their series with the Yankees will see an average below that price. All three games combined will be 13% below Seattle’s season average.
6/10 – Vidal Nuno vs Hisashi Iwakuma | Avg. Price: $57.65 | Get-in Price: $19
The series begins tonight when the Mariners give Hisashi Iwakuma the ball against Yankee lefty Vidal Nuno. The average price for June 10 Yankees vs Mariners tickets is $57.85, the highest of the series but still 10.42% below season average, with a get-in price of $19, also the highest of the series.
The former All-Star Iwakuma has pitched well to start his season after missing the first month with a torn finger tendon. The right-handed Japanese ace has gone 4-2 with a 2.66 ERA over seven starts and is riding high after shutting out the Braves for seven innings in his last outing. Nuno has struggled as of late, pitching to just a 1-2 record and 5.33 ERA over nine starts and three bullpen appearances.
6/11 – Masahiro Tanaka vs Chris Young | Avg. Price: $54.25 | Get-in Price: $14
The second game of the series won’t feature any promotional items but both Mariner and Yankee fans alike will anticipate the start of Yankee ace Masahiro Tanaka, who continues to exceed expectations this season. The Mariners will send out Chris Young to face the Japanese sensation. Average price for June 11 Yankees vs Mariners tickets is $54.25, the cheapest of the series and 16% below season average. Get-in price for the second game of the series is $14.
Tanaka has lived up to the hype after going 9-1 with just a 2.02 ERA over his first 12 Major League starts, almost putting an automatic win on the Yankees schedule whenever he pitches. After 84.2 innings, the Japanese import allowed just 19 earned runs and has struck out 92 batters. Chris Young has also pitched well, posting a 5-3 record and 3.42 ERA in 12 starts this season. The 6’10” righty has spent the last two years in the Minors, but has earned a permanent spot in the Mariners rotation after seeing success this season.
6/12 – Chase Whitley vs Roenis Elias | Avg. Price: $55.94 | Get-in Price: $14
The final game of this series will have Mariners lefty Roenis Elias match up against the Yankees’ Chase Whitley. The average price for June 12 Yankees vs Mariners tickets will be 13.38% below season average at $55.94. The get-in price for the final game between the teams is $14. The first 30,000 fans will also receive a Macklemore bobblehead, who has gained notoriety as a successful Seattle-born rapper and hip-hop artist over the last several years.
The two rookies starting the final game of the series have pitched fairly well this year, with Elias pitching to the tune of a 5-4 record and 3.64 ERA and Whitley going 1-0 with a 2.42 ERA. Elias pitched a three-hit shutout against the Tigers on June 1 and will hope to carry that momentum into his start Thursday. Whitely is coming off his first Major League win last Friday and will look for his second when he takes the mound against the Mariners this week.
