Breaking News: CF Abraham Almonte Optioned to Triple-A Tacoma

Immediately following the Mariners 8-7 victory over the Houston Astros, it was announced that centerfielder Abraham Almonte has been optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

The corresponding move is to come tomorrow.

Most fans had become fed up with Almonte, especially after he had been gifted the leadoff spot without ever proving he was worthy of the position. In 26 games with the Mariners Almonte batted .198/.248/.292 with a whopping 40 strikeouts in just 106 at-bats.

As of now, the question is whether it will be James Jones– who was up earlier in the year and went 1-1 with a single– or a reliever to buoy an overworked bullpen heading into a 4-game series over the course of three days.

Keep your eye here at Sodo Mojo, on twitter @SodoMojoFS, or on Facebook for the corresponding move.
