When looking ahead on the Mariners schedule, Tuesday April 29th had to have a large red circle around it for many of you. Why? It marks Robinson Cano‘s first trip to Yankee Stadium as a member of the Mariners.
But one thing was missing from the schedule. A “National broadcast” marking for that game.
How could that happen? How could ESPN and/or MLB Network let this game pass by and just ignore it? Well, someone or a team of someones at MLB Network thought the same thing. The game is now listed as the MLB Network Showcase game for Tuesday night.
The game will be called by Bob Costas and John Smoltz with Sam Ryan on the field.
Cano, who signed a 10-year $240 million contract with the Mariners this past offseason, is batting .280 with a homer and 8 RBI in his first 21 games in a Seattle uniform. His return to New York could be the spark he needs to get his bat going again. Regardless, this could easily be the most-watched game of the young season.
Thank you MLB Network. Thank you for recognizing what should be a “Must-See TV” moment. And giving it to the masses.
