Baseball is back in Seattle and it appears the Mariners are quite envious of their Super Bowl winning brothers. After years of relative free agent silence, the Mariners made an enormous splash heading into the 2014 season with the signing of Robinson Cano for the next 10 years at $240 million. With a powerful 1-2 punch of Cano and King Felix Hernandez, Seattle Mariners tickets have still surprisingly seen an overall decline in price from a year ago. The average price of a home Mariners ticket at Safeco Field for the 2014 season is sitting at $67.60, down 15.87%.
Take a look at the five highest priced season series below:
1) Boston Red Sox, June – Average Price, $112 – 66% above home average
This mid-season matchup features the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox who come to Seattle for their only visit of the season. This three-game early week home stand is seeing the highest ticket price for any season series with prices going for 66% above the home average, at $112 per ticket.
2) New York Yankees, June – Average Price, $99 – 47% above home average
Prior to the Red Sox visit in late June, the New York Yankees will visit Safeco Field for a three-game series of their own. The once mighty New York Yankees may be looking to rebrand themselves on the field, but off the field they remain as powerful of a draw as ever. The $99 average ticket price for the Yankees series is the 2nd highest draw in Seattle, averaging 47% higher prices than the home average. Not to mention that any Yankee fans residing in Seattle can come decked out in pinstripes to let Robinson Cano know that they think he is not very nice for leaving them!
3) Toronto Blue Jays, August – Average Price, $82 – 21% above home average
There must be something about the American League East that draws fans of the Northwest to the ball park! After the Red Sox and Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays represent the third highest average ticket price of the season with $82 average tickets for the three-game early week series. Joey Bats and crew should bring an exciting Blue Jays offense to town.
4) Atlanta Braves, August – Average Price, $81 – 20% above home average
The Atlanta Braves will make a brief two game visit to Seattle in early August for an interleague showcase with the Mariners. One of the favorites in the National League and a historical strong draw throughout MLB since their 90’s success, the Atlanta Braves are pushing tickets to 20% above home average levels at $81 per ticket for the two game series. The Mariners have the 6th best record in interleague play over the last 15 years and will look to continue to dominate their National League foes.
5) Washington Nationals, August – Average Price, $79 – 17% above home average
The upstart Washington Nationals, long a laughing stock, now feature some of the most exciting players in baseball, featuring ace Stephen Strasburg and stud OF Bryce Harper. This late August three-game weekend series is seeing prices at 17% above the Seattle home average at $79 each. Summer in Seattle certainly is the best time to get outdoors and enjoy the beauty of Safeco Field.
