The roster is set, the lights have been turned off at the Spring Training facility in Peoria, Cactus League play is over. The Mariners hopped a flight yesterday to Los Angeles where they will have a short workout today.

Then tomorrow, the real fun begins. Opening Day – or night since the game is at 7 PM – is just one day away.

We have been counting down the final days of spring training by voting on our most popular Mariners to wear the uniform numbers 9 through 1. Here is a recap of who you voted for.

9- Endy Chavez

8- Carlos Guillen

7- Spike Owen

6- Dan Wilson

5- John Olerud

4- Harold Reynolds

3- Mike Zunino

2- Julio Cruz

And now, your nominees for the most popular Mariner to wear the #1:

Bill Stein– The first number 1. Stein played for the M’s from 1977 to 1980. His best season as a pro arguably came in that 1977 season, batting .259 with career-highs of 13 HR, 67 RBI, 26 doubles and 53 runs scored.

Rick Renteria– The new Cubs skipper spent two seasons with the Mariners. He only played five seasons in the bigs. Was considered a bust seeing that he was the 20th overall pick in the 1980 draft.

Charles Gipson– Tied with Stein as the only players to wear the number longer than two seasons. Gipson was drafted by the M’s in the 63rd round and had a positive WAR in all four years he wore the #2 for the M’s.

Carlos Triunfel– He may have been designated for assignment this week but he appeared in 17 games for the M’s in 2013. Not sure if people will vote for him or not, but he was the latest M’s player to wear the number so it’s worth noting.

There you have it. Voting closes tomorrow morning….the morning of Opening Day. The wait is finally over.
