Can you feel it? We are only five short days away from the regular-season opener. Five days until Opening Day for your Seattle Mariners. As we celebrate the final days of Spring Training, we have been counting down by voting on the most popular Mariners to wear uniform numbers 9 through 1.
Today, we are at #5. Here are today’s nominees:
Brad Miller: The current bearer of the number. Miller has tore it up this spring and we sure hope he can continue to have that kind of success in the regular season.
John Olerud: He wore #5 longer than any other Mariner (5 seasons, fitting). Won three Gold Gloves and was an All-Star once as a member of the Mariners.
Dave Valle: Before switching to the #10, Valle wore #5 for two seasons in Seattle. Valle is now the manager of the Single-A short season club in Everett.
Yuniesky Betancourt: Olerud is the only Mariners to ever wear the number longer than Betancourt. He also wore #46, #3 and #7 as a Mariner.
Dave Collins: The first #5. Drafted by the Mariners in the expansion draft, Collins played only that 1977 season in Seattle before being traded.
There you go. Choose wisely. Once again, voting will be open until 6 AM PDT tomorrow.
