In the first splits quad game against the Giants, the Mariners put up 18 runs. In the 2nd game against the Dodgers, the Mariners looked to resemble a Little League team in the first but quickly turned things around in an 8-5 win.

Abraham Almonte led off the game for the Mariners with a single to right that Scott Van Slyke let drop in front of him. Almonte was then picked off by Josh Beckett, leaning towards second.

Then, after Kyle Seager singled on a single to left that should’ve been caught, Nick Franklin lined into a double play, catching Seager in a base running error.

Then in the bottom of the 1st, the comedy of errors continued as two errors led to three runs (only one earned) to give the Dodgers an early 3-0 lead.

But the Mariners woke up in the 2nd. After Justin Smoak walked to lead off the inning, Jesus Montero hit an opposite field shot to right to cut the Dodger lead to 3-2.

Montero, who was only starting the game after D.J. Peterson was scratched from the lineup after reports of a stomach ache following the first game, seemed to atone for his error in the first which extended the inning and allowed the two unearned runs to score.

Stefen Romero then homered in the next at-bat and we had a new ballgame.

Smoak’s 2-run homer in the third put the M’s ahead for good, and was one of the last hitters Beckett faced.

The Mariners bullpen made it interesting though. Joc Pederson‘s two-run homer in the 6th off Andrew Carraway cut the Mariner lead to one.

But in the 8th, it was Montero again hitting another homer to right, just inside the foul pole. Ketel Marte added an insurance run later in the inning with an RBI single scoring Cole Gillespie.

Danny Farquhar came in and walked the first hitter on four pitches to lead off the ninth. He then proceeded to throw a couple of wild pitches to advance the runner to third. After a two-out walk, Aaron Bates took a 3-1 pitch to the warning track in right, missing a game-tying homer by about 10 feet.

The Mariners play the Rangers Sunday in Peoria. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 pm PDT. With the time change tonight, we on the west coast will now be in the same timezone as Arizona, who doesn’t change with Daylight Savings Time.
