With the Baltimore Orioles recent signing of Nelson Cruz, many Mariners fans are breathing a sigh of relief. What may be a bigger relief is that the Mariners, despite many reports, may not have been all that in on Cruz to begin with.
According to Jon Heyman:
source says #mariners won't say aloud but were concerned about ballpark switch, PED effect w/ cruz. they like morales more

That pretty much echoes most fans’ concerns with the Cruz possibility as well. How would he transition to the bigger ballpark? What kind of player will he be after the PED suspension.
That’s why it makes sense that the Orioles only gave him a one-year deal. It gives him a chance to prove himself and get a long-term deal next year.
With Kendrys Morales, the Mariners know what they get. Given this information, I fully expect the Mariners to re-sign Morales by the end of this next week and look to shop Justin Smoak for pitching depth.
