MLB Rumors: Mariners Trying To Add SP

After Wednesday’s news of Hisashi Iwakuma‘s finger injury, Thursday brought news of Franklin Gutierrez deciding to sit out 2014 and Taijuan Walker‘s sore shoulder.

With that, the reports came in that the Mariners have put off their talks with Nelson Cruz and have begun to intensify their search for a starting pitcher.

I personally am still holding on to the hope that the team pursues a trade for Cole Hamels. The Phillies had been interested in shopping him earlier this offseason and now that they have signed A.J. Burnett, maybe they would listen to offers again.

More than likely though, the Mariners will panic and overpay for Ervin Santana, or worse, Ubaldo Jimenez.

Stay tuned sports fans, it’s gonna be a busy weekend.

I would rather see a Santana on the team even if it’s is an over pay, then an over pay for Cruse besides if he doesn’t make you happy at some point, trade him for that outfielder we need.

Well it seems like spring training hasn’t yet started but we are already 10 games out of first place in the AL West. We should be a better team this season but I don’t expect us to contend this year, so spending large on Santana or Jimenez is questionable in my mind … which is questionable all by itself. Same goes for Cruz. Capuano seems like a reasonable deal, I wouldn’t hate it if they brought Kendrys back. The Orioles signed Yoon but there’s a Cuban kid up for auction I believe. They sure need rotation fodder but if they chose to gamble by not signing risky deals I’m okay with that.

What about getting Cliff Lee back?

Why don’t the Mariners go for David Price?
