Well that didn’t take long.
Pitchers and catchers reported to camp today and Hisashi Iwakuma is already going to miss 4-6 weeks due to a tendon pull in the middle finger of his pitching hand.
According to reports, ‘Kuma showed up for his physical with a splint over the finger. He said he caught his finger as he tried to retrieve a ball from some netting while working out in Southern California on Jan. 20.
The Mariners pitching staff is already in question this year with a mix of rookies and questionable veterans filling in behind Felix Hernandez and ‘Kuma. The last thing the team needs is to lose their No. 2 guy.
He will be reevaluated in three weeks but the injury shouldn’t require surgery.
