We knew it was coming.
Well, we didn’t know it would be Peguero, but with the announcement coming Thursday that the Mariners had signed John Buck, we knew someone would be DFA to make room for him.
That man is Carlos Peguero.
Peguero is out of Triple-A options and would have had to make the big league club out of spring training, which given his play last year seemed unlikely.
Peguero has such raw power, it would be a shame to lose him. But I’m not sure it’s worth a roster spot to hope for that to come about.
The Mariners now have 10 days to trade, outright or release Peguero. I feel someone will claim him and a trade will get done. If they release him, he may go back to Japan as several NPB clubs have been showing interest in him.
