According to several outlets including MLBTradeRumors.com, the Seattle Mariners appear to be the front-runners to land Masahiro Tanaka, reuniting him with former Rakuten teammate Hisashi Iwakuma.

ESPN’s Jayson Stark tweeted earlier today:

Add that in with the latest rumors that the Mariners may be able to get Nelson Cruz at a discounted price and perhaps the team isn’t done spending after all.

If the Mariners are able to land Tanaka and Cruz, I still think that a trade for David Price is in the works (not involving Taijuan Walker). Then, the starting five would look like this:

Felix Hernandez
David Price
Hisashi Iwakuma
Masahiro Tanaka
Taijuan Walker

They would – by far – have the best rotation in the American League and quite possibly the Majors.

We will keep an eye on the situation as it develops and bring you the latest information as it breaks.

Happy New Year….New Team?

    If they pull this off…

    Felix Hernandez
    David Price
    Hisashi Iwakuma
    Masahiro Tanaka
    Taijuan Walker

We only need 1 player on the field to Win games and that would be the SP …. lol.

I’ve been hearing that they are still in on Price too. TONS of reports and rumors coming out of the LA area that it sounds like Kemp to Seattle is a pretty much given at this point.

Prospect Insider came out earlier this week the 2014 Projected fWAR for all AL teams, and currently Seattle and Yankees are in a dead tie (but right now as it stands they are both NOT part of the 2014 playoff picture.

Interesting based upon these fWAR Projections I plugged in Tanaka’s expected WAR for 2014 and Kemps, and “just those two moves alone” puts Seattle’s rotation just a hair above BoSox as the #1 rotation in the AL, and with the Kemp move would place our Offense as the #1 in AL too. THEN on top of that they decide to land David Price too?! Holy Smokes…that would place Seattle as the favorites as the WS contenders in the AL!

I’ve been saying all along that with their current financial resources (paid off stadium, lucrative TV ownership deal, the $25M coming to Seattle on their portion of the MLB TV funds, and very few committed contracts starting in 2014 and beyond.

If PI has us dead even with the Yankees for the 2014 fWAR projections, the ONLY difference is that currently Seattle’s 2014 payroll is in the mid-$80M bracket compared to the Yankees $189M+ and back up to the $220M bracket if the Arod suspension doesn’t go through.

I’ll take Seattle’s team and “youth” way over the Yankees for $100M+ less!!!

Would be an amazing fund rotation to watch EVERYDAY, and not just once every 5 days or so!
