‘Tis the season for giving thanks. It is time once again for the annual holiday where we eat too much, tolerate distant family we only see once or twice a year and fall asleep watching football.

But it’s also a time to reflect on the year that was as a sports fan. So we here at Sodo Mojo will give you a list of 5 things Seattle Mariners fans can be thankful for in 2013.

5- A promising future

While we as fans sit here and anxiously wait for the Mariners to make some moves in free agency to improve the club for 2014, we can rest assured that the future will be indeed bright – even if it’s still a few years out.

The youth is being served already, with Mike Zunino, Nick Franklin, Dustin Ackley, Abraham Almonte and Kyle Seager all showing M’s fans some hope in 2013.

The Mariners have several young prospects coming up through the ranks, including two players ranked in the Top-25 on Taijuan Walker (#4) and Danny Hultzen (#23).

Add to that, the promising end of 2013 shown by SP James Paxton, plus the promising year that Mariners Minor League Player of the Year Chris Taylor put together, things are indeed looking bright.

I’m thankful of numerous things as a M’s fan, though painful as the past 11 years has become…

    1. 1995 Amazing Memories to keep baseball in Seattle and fund Safeco Field.

    2. Washington Taxpayers that funded 1/2 of the Safeco.

    3. SAFECO FIELD PAID OFF FINALLY, so no lease expense like all other MLB teams have. (ie: Oakland A’s just signed a $1.75M lease agreement for 2014).

    4. After the Rangers/Angels new TV deals…Seattle stepped up and blew MLB away by taking majority ownership in ROOT Sports Network. Mariners just stepped up to be in the same light as the Yankees YES Network. HUGE HUGE HUGE accomplishment and major increase in RSN revenue.

    5. Ownership in ROOT Sports Network assures major revenue from all other Seattle teams (NFL, Soccer, NBA, PBR, etc, etc).

    6. MLB’s new TV deal that adding $25M to each MLB team annually.

    7. FINALLY all BAD contracts are OFF the books, and we have only $32.5M in committed contracts going into this offseason.

    8. Felix and Iwakuma are locked up, and we have the most incredible SP prospects raring to slip into the rotation.

    9. We have one of the TOP 3 Farm Systems in MLB.

    10. Oh did I forget to mention our 116 Win Record that we hold over all other MLB teams in history?

    11. Our prospects have been tested thoroughly over the past 4 years, so after 2013 we NOW finally know where we have to bring in the experienced and professional “proven” Vets.
