In a busy news day for Seattle Mariners fans, Hisashi Iwakuma was named as a finalist for the 2013 AL Cy Young Award along with Texas’ Yu Darvish and Detroit’s Max Scherzer.

Iwakuma baffled the AL in 2013, going 14-6 in 33 starts with a 2.66 ERA (3rd-best in the AL). He was 2nd in the league in WHIP (1.01) behind Scherzer, 3rd in innings pitched – making that low ERA even more impressive (Scherzer was 5th and Darvish was 13th).

The 2013 American League Cy Young Award winner will be announced on Wednesday, November 13 at 3 pm PST.
