Seattle Mariners prospect Stefen Romero started the 2013 Fall Stars Game on the bench, but left the game on everyone’s mind.
The M’s No. 7 prospect entered the game in the 6th inning as a defensive replacement for Delino DeShields Jr. (Astros) and hit a 2-run homer on the first pitch he saw. He added a solo shot in the 8th to give him a 2-for-2 night with 2 HR’s and 3 RBI as the West beat the East 9-2.
Take a look at both shots below:

The question remains; Is a 25-year old minor leaguer still a prospect? It’s unclear whether the Mariners value Romero as a potential big leaguer, or whether they value him as a trade piece. This performance certainly helps his trade value and is fresh in people’s minds.
With Abraham Almonte showing promise and the rumors of going hard after Jacoby Ellsbury or some other top outfield free agent, do the Mariners have space for Romero? Perhaps Jack should look to move him soon.
