In a move that should come as little surprise to Mariners fans, the team declined to pick up 2014 options on OF Franklin Gutierrez and SP Joe Saunders. They both become free agents effective immediately.

The club turned down Gutierrez’s $7.5 million option, paying him a $500,000 buyout instead.

As for Saunders, the club declined his $8.3 million option, paying him a $900,000 buyout instead. Saunders was 11-16 with a 5.26 ERA in his only season with Seattle.

The Mariners also reinstated Stephen Pryor from the 60-day disabled list, meaning the 40-man roster stands at 34 players.
