This is twice now that I have suggested the Mariners strongly make a move to sign someone in free agency where the next day they are signed to a contract extension with the SF Giants.

Am I a jinx? I’m not really sure. I know both Hunter Pence and Tim Lincecum were going to remain on the Giants’ radar. Maybe just bad timing in my posts? Who knows. All I know now is that I need to rethink who might be the Mariners number 3 starter come opening day 2014.

Right now I just want to throw lots of spaghetti at at wall and see if it sticks. There are a number of FA starting pitchers on the market this season. Not really any sure-fire aces, but then again the Mariners are set at the top of their rotation.

What the M’s really need is a guy who will sign for maybe two years without an absurd dollar figure tied to his name. Someone who has produced before and will fare better than Joe Saunders and Aaron Harang (a very tall task, I know).

Lets dive in!
