Rookie catcher Mike Zunino will be recalled from his rehab assignment at Triple-A Tacoma in time to take the field on Labor Day. According to Greg Johns of MLB.com, Zunino is flying out Sunday to meet up with the team in Kansas City and there is a good chance that Zunino will catch Felix Hernandez as the Mariners open a series with the Royals.

After five rehab games with the Rainiers, Zunino is looking to come back from a broken bone in his left hand (his catching hand) that has kept him away from the club since July 26.

Zunino will be the 2nd player to be called up from Tacoma, Tom Wilhelmsen was called up earlier today and made a brief appearance in Sunday’s loss to the Houston Astros. Wilhelmsen faced one batter in the bottom of the 8th with two outs and a runner on. Wilhelmsen threw two pitches, the first was a called strike and the second was hit to 1B Justin Smoak for the third out of the inning.

Other players will begin to be called up to Seattle after the Rainiers season ends on Monday. Only those on the active 40-man roster are eligible to be called up. Those players include: Pitchers Blake Beavan, Anthony Fernandez, Danny Hultzen, Bobby LaFromboise, Hector Noesi, Erasmo Ramirez and Chance Ruffin; C Jesus Sucre; 2B Carlos Triunfel; outfielders Xavier Avery, Julio Morban and Carlos Peguero.
