Jesus Montero tears meniscus

Mariners catcher Jesus M0ntero has a torn meniscus, according to multiple Twitter reports. The 23-year old will miss 4-6 weeks.

Montero suffered the injury a few days ago while playing for AAA Tacoma. The Mariners optioned Montero to the Rainiers last week after he had struggled mightily both at and behind the plate in 2013.

Montero was 7-for-28 in seven games in Tacoma with two RBI and three doubles. He had hit .208 with three homers and nine RBI in 29 games with the Mariners.

The injury certainly adds uncertainty to an already tumultuous situation for Montero. It will be interesting to see if the meniscus tear will prevent him from catching and hasten his transition to a full-time designated hitter.
