Here is his Sodo Mojo Scouting Report

My Thoughts:

Good fit for the Mariners. He has the bat that will project well at the catcher position. The fact that he can hit for power to all fields is very nice considering the spacious left field at Safeco. Unlike Montero, Zunino won’t need to transition to DH or 1B down the road, he will be a legitimate defensive catcher for a long time. However, he does have some work to do to improve his receiving and transferring skills. This player is probably ready for +A or AA ball right now. I love the pick.

Good pick. With the new CBA, he should be in AA this season, and thus could be playing catcher for the M’s by the end of 2013.

  • maqman

Bet he never catches a six pitcher no hitter in his career.

@maqman well, considering it’s only happened twice… ever… that can be said about every catcher currently alive not named Jesus Montero.

@Keith_12thMR ya, as long as he evades injury, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him starting by 2014
