@Harrison_Crow@AlexCarson As you know, relievers are inconsistent and hard to project. Lueke could be anywhere from Frank Fransisco to John Axford next season, value-wise, not topping a couple WAR.

Now, you could turn around and say the same thing about Jaso. Maybe he's only a couple win player, too, right?

So, to me is, the tie breaker is in the upside and potential to put up more value. The frequency of a catcher, or any position player, to put up 3+ WAR is far greater than that of a reliever. I'd guess around 10 catchers do it a season whereas maybe one or two relievers do it.

There's a good chance this trade indeed goes down as a "meh" on both sides. One side could get lucky, though. If I'm Jack Zduriencik, I feel better about our side being the lucky side.

I'm of the belief that Lueke was going to be traded this offseason no matter what. Too much trouble with his history and the problems that have arisen from his acquisition. Getting something for him instead of nothing like past regimes would have done is a good thing.

Like him or not, Jaso is currently the best catcher in this organization. With he and Olivo in a L/R platoon, the M's just got better. Hard to argue with that.
