Help A Brother Out

facebooktwitterreddit

A small programming note and maybe a small victory for some of you that don’t care for my writing so much. I’ll be stepping away from the blog for a short time starting sometime in the middle of next week. Not really sure as I don’t know when the military is coming to pick up my stuff.

As most of you know I’m in the Air Force and it’s moving time. I’m not really changing stations as I’ll be back to Montgomery in six months but in the mean time I’m headed out on deployment to Djibouti City, Djibouti in Africa. During my travel time and set up in the hot eastern coast region of Africa I won’t have a steady place to write so I’ll be taking a short “vacation” from the blog until I get all setup in my new digs.

You’ll be in the very capable hands of Adam, Alex and of course Keith.

But, while I find it important to let you all know whats going on and where I’m going and the fact that I’m going to disappear for a short time the purpose of this post is more…. off topic than what we usually go for around these parts.

Since I’m going to be traveling streaming video isn’t always an option. Some airports have good wifi, international often do not (See: Shannon, Ireland). Not to mention being out of the country pretty much voids any Netflix or Hulu agreements as well as any corp sites such as NBC, CBS, ABC and even IMDB. This really prevents me from keeping up with my regular tv shows.

So here is where I need your help.

While I’ll be busy with school and my job “down range” (as they say in the military) I require assistance in some good media suggestions.

This is the time that I buy digital copies of media to put on my hard drives. I love watching TV Shows during deployments, it’s perhaps my favorite way to unwind after a stressful day. But, I’m running low on ideas. Mad Men and Leverage are two shows that I haven’t started watching and are easily on my list.  I need more suggestions. (NOTE: I REFUSE TO WATCH BREAKING BAD)

They can be from the 80s, 90s whatever. A big fan of How I Met Your Mother, Scrubs, Psych, That 70s show, Sports Night. I mainly do comedies but I’ve been known to be down with good dramas 24, Alias, Macgiver, Heroes, Veronica Mars and even The OC (don’t judge me).

Secondly, I save as much music as I can get my hands on and stock up like I’m about to go through a musiclist life. I have Spotify (and if you don’t you need to reevaluate your life) but that’s only good for my laptop (being that phones don’t work where I’m going) and I work out a lot while I’m deployed.

I need music to lift and run any suggestions would be great.

As a quick musical background my favorite music is pretty much everything, my favorite band is Brand New, my current album of choice is License to Ill and my current comfort albums are Plans by Death Cab, From Under The Cork Tree by Fall Out Boy, Songs to Burn Bridges By by Project 86 and Infectious by Suburban Legends (yeah 2005 was a weird year, seriously, don’t judge me).

My likes vary from weird eclectic to really, oddly uncomfortable, mainstream trendy. I blame my Dad and the 16 hours in the car listening to Journey, Led Zepplin, Boston and The Police greatest hits and Eddie Money…seriously who does that to a kid?

I’d love to lie to everyone and say that I like great indie under appreciated indie bands like Bishop Allen or the Artic Monkeys (wait… I actually like both of those) but I’m just as partial to pop music such as Maroon 5, Black Eyed Peas or Linkin Park.

I’m not overly sophisticated. Actually if you’ve read this blog at all you probably find me pretty predicable and sadly ordinary. In fact when we talk about scouting prospects we often times use comps. If you wanted to use a comp on me I’m basically JD from scrubs, only way less romanticised.

Anyways… help a brother out and send me some good TV show/music suggestions. My goal is to have everything together by Monday.
