Bedard Traded in 3-Team Deal

Erik Bedard’s time with the Seattle Mariners is over. Same goes for former 1st round pick Josh Fields, who failed to develop and never made it out of AA. Both were traded to the Red Sox just a few seconds before the trade deadline today.

In return they recieved Boston’s AA prospect Chich-Hsien Chiang and Dodgers AAA prospect Trayvon Robinson.

Robinson is the Gem of this deal, he’s a 23 year old switch hitting outfielder with power. I’m still looking for info about his defense, but it really doesn’t matter. He’s got a .936 OPS and a .395 wOBA. They guy can hit, and that’s what the Mariners need.

Chiang is a 23 year old lefty outfielder who hits even better than Robinson does. His .455 wOBA and 1.053 OPS are nothing but impressive. His K rate is also under 17%, and he’s got a decent walk rate at 7.2%

Robinson’s ETA is later this season, either once  other vets are moved, or as a September call-up. Chiang should start 2012 in AAA, and could arrive in Seattle anywhere from June 2012 to April of 2013.
