Boxscore: Game 76

I’m not going to say I’m not worried about this offense, it dies sometimes and it’s terribly erratic. But it’s starting to prove that when things come together they can score runs. I said it yesterday and I’ll continue to say it. With Smoak, Ichiro, Ackley and Kennedy + one hot bat the Mariners can put together some things.

If they can get a big bat I think you’re going to see this team turn around in a huge way and that’s really the first time I’ve said or thought that.

Are they on the talent level with the Rangers? No. But they are playing as much below their talent level as the Mariners are playing above (i.e. this is a 75 win team not an 82-86 win team) .

I still think it’s just as important to get another arm as it is to get another hitter. But I think that you could argue either way.

I’m starting to agree with the one good bat possibility. Pena is starting to hit again with the Cubs. I wonder if he might be available? He signed for $10MM for this season only. If the Cubs are out of it they might eat some of his cost for a quality prospect like Seagar. Yeah, it’s a long shot. I just hope Z doesn’t give Fielder too much for too long when the season is over.
    Or, how about Ty Wiggington?

Wigginton went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Wednesday’s loss to the Indians. Wigginton has hit safely in seven of his last eight games.

Spin: Wigginton’s days may be numbered with the impending arrival of Ian Stewart. However, Wigginton is riding a hot streak and could be a wise pickup should you need a short-term corner infield option. On the season, Wigginton is batting .266 with 9 home runs, 27 RBI and 26 runs scored.
