Boxscore: Game 69

I could rewatch that “single” by Carlos Peguero about 50 times and it not get old…

Last year we talked about how the Mariners were just simply unlucky in every sense of the word. They’d often get the bad side of a call, when they hit the ball hard it found a glove and when they needed a play so badly the other team found a way to stop them.

This year the Mariners continue to find little obscure, flukey and crazy ways to win. While most people say it only proves to them that the Mariners are not even close to winning. Since, luck is not sustainable and only carries you so far. I think it gives me more hope that the Mariners could compete not less.

Sure, the way they have continued to win is unsustainable. I get that. But it’s not like this team is great and if they can put together 181 (162+5+7+7) games of crazy luck driven happenings I’ll take it and I’ll go so far as to say it’s completely possible for them to win their division SHOULD it continue.

The problem is no one knows when that crazy roller coaster is going to stop. It could last the whole season and carry into an amazing play off run. It could also end just before the All-Star break.

This is all about luck and while I don’t think this team can play for the AL West deep into the season, if they did I wouldn’t be surprised at this point. Their amount of luck has been crazy and it’s just continued all season long.

Also: We need to send the Yankees a fruit basket. We’re now only 1 game out of the AL West lead.

If you ain’t great, being lucky is the next best thing.

When I was watching that play, I had several quick emotions. At first, when the ground ball went past the pitcher, I thought base hit, Mariners score. Then, I saw shortstop Erick Aybar standing behind 2nd getting ready to make an easy play, lost opportunity.

Then, the ball hits the bag and everything changed again. Fun game yesterday. Also, great job by Carp stealing the HR and great job by Bedard.

Wow, thats funny that’s almost exactly a play-by-play of what I was thinking sitting at my computer

what’s the saying, “sometimes it’s better to be lucky then good.” Well the M’s offense isn’t good, so we’ll have to stick to lucky.
