One game from being .500. Last time we were here we subsequently went on a week+ losing streak. But, the other side of the coin is that we are one unlucky/bad series and a missed catch by Carlos Peguero from either being tied or actually in first place.
I further encourage you to temper your enthusiasm. Judging by the readership the last day and half, I don’t think that will be an issue.
You can tell that the Mariners were pushing a little bit more for the division just by small things. Last night with Michael Saunders pinch running for Just Smoak and stealing a base, and just the intensity of the team overall.
Also important to note that Michael Pineda won’t miss his start against the Yankees this weekend. It’s almost as if the organization is saying “This series is too important to not pitch Pineda at this point” and I don’t disagree. I fully expect for Pineda to be shut down later in the year but for now while it still matters (and who can tell how long that will happen) they need to make all their chances count and skipping Pineda in the rotation against a team like the Yankees in order to save his arm would be silly. That’s just my opinion.
I have a feeling after watching a bit of the Rangers game that even if the Mariners play really well (like they’ve been doing), they may still be more than 5 games out come the All-Star game. Texas looked really good last night.
