Baseball America Mock Draft

Kind of a day late on this but great information and it’s free to all! Check it out!

2. MARINERS (Conor): I too would have picked Rendon No. 1. But, if I’m the Mariners, I’m fine with whatever decision the Pirates make because the top two guys are neck and neck. I know Seattle fans are clamoring for a future infield of Anthony Rendon, Nick Franklin, Dustin Ackley and Justin Smoak, but a future rotation of Felix Hernandez, Gerrit Cole and Michael Pineda is just as enviable. With Cole’s top-shelf stuff and big-game experience in the College World Series and with Team USA, that trio could be a reality by late 2012.

I’m not exactly getting good vibes about Rendon. The fear of drafting a kid who spends more time on the DL than on the diamond is very real and should play a part in the Mariners decision. I’ve been beyond hoping that the Pirates take Rendon for a couple of weeks now.

After doing more reading I really disagree with you on that and here is why.

The shoulder isn’t nearly as big of a problem people make it out to be. He could be starting every day at third base but the coaching staff has been very protective of him and his future.

      This is a great read!

Furthermore looking at his lack of overwhelming stats he goes days – that’s DAY – without legit hittable pitches. There is no one else even remotely above average in that line-up to help him out and teams are just pitching around him.

It’s made it very difficult for him to get into any sort of rhythm as well as to make the necessary adjustments that are needed. Look how long it took for Springer and a few of the other hitters to make adjustments. I think he’ll be fine and I’d be very excited to get him or Cole.

Dang, I wish I had read that article before I so flippantly responded. In all honesty, after reading that article, I still feel that Rendon is an injury risk that could be spending more time on the DL than on the diamond.

Trust me, I WANT to be wrong.

Wha? Are you really going to bring research and reason into this duscussion???

    Isn’t that… cheating?

I get your concern Lonnie and share them to a degree but like Harrison I’ll be happy with him or Cole. Truth be told none of us knows how either of them will turn out, particularly about future time on the DL. You pays their money and takes your chances. Ultimately the draft is riskier than a shooting craps.
