An Easter candy sugar high induced news brief

It’s time to break out the I-told-you-so wagon again and ride it around some more, not because I really care to point out that I was right (even though me being right is pretty rare) but simply because I really want the term “told-you-so-wagon” to catch on.

Yesterday I tapped into the mess that has been parts of the 2011 bullpen for this post, and suggested that the M’s would be likely to send down Josh Lueke in favor of Dan Cortes. My reasoning for this was simple: Lueke has been awful and Cortes has been pretty decent, and that no 40-man roster move would need to be made to make it happen. The M’s would, hopefully, get a bullpen upgrade while not losing anyone to waivers and such.

Well, just a couple hours after I posted that, the M’s agreed and did just what I suggested. I’m quite sure they read this blog and said, “You know what, that seems like a good idea.” Don’t you? Ok, maybe not. Honestly, the move was obvious to anyone who was paying attention. (And for the record, I don’t believe that the M’s management reads anything I write. I was joking.)

Also happening last night was Carlos Peguero getting optioned back to Tacoma to make room for Justin Smoak‘s return. This was about as surprising as a Monday following a Sunday. Smoak was ready to return and is probably the M’s best position player. Peguero wasn’t ready for the big leagues and looked over-matched at every opportunity.
