Pineda Throws Hard

You may realize that Pineda throws hard. But he’s coming out throwing bullets and is sitting top of the league in terms of average mph. Pretty crazy.

There was a recent article I read regarding the perceived speed of a pitch. A speed gun measures a ball as it passes a certain point. But, they are beginning to come up with information that correlates the speed and distance a ball travels.

For example, if a pitcher motion allows him to release a ball a foot closer to the plate than another pitcher, the ball appears faster than it actually is. In other words, not all 93mph fastballs are the same.

My question is, I wonder because of Pineda’s height, does he release a pitch closer to the plate and therefore, make his fastball appear even faster to a batter?

Yeah I read the same article. I think it does. If you look at the length of his arms I would have to think this is the case.

Thanks maqman, that is the article. It is amazing the ideas and information that is coming out in this technology age.
