Three more players were optioned down to AAA this evening: Greg Halman, Mike Carp, and Edward Paredes.
Earlier today I said it was “interesting” that Halman hadn’t been sent down when the other young outfielders were optioned, and now you can see why. Halman wasn’t going to make this team. He needs more time in AAA to get get his walk rate up and this strikeout rate down before he’s ready for the major leagues.
Carp was one of my dark horses to make the squad. I’m not sure what he’s left to learn down in Tacoma, but at the same time it’s not like he’s going to get any playing time at 1B or DH early in the year for the M’s so perhaps this is for the best.
Paredes is bound for the M’s bullpen eventually, but he started last season in AA and I guess the team felt there were other options for the this season’s pen, so he gets a chance to improve his secondary pitches in Tacoma for now.
