Griffey is Calling it a Career

According to both Ryan Divish and Shannon Drayer, Ken Griffey Jr. will announce his retirement today. While this is the right thing to do, and it’s something that this team really needed to happen, it’s still sad and just a little bit surreal. I wish he had come to this decision about 6 months ago, but what are ya gonna do? He’s had an absolutely incredible career, and he’s amazingly been able to do it in this era without being tainted by the suspicion of steroid use.

As much as I’ve harped on him over the last couple of months, I really do love Junior, and I wish him the best in whatever he chooses to do now, whether it be baseball-related or not. Thanks for everything, Ken.

Perhaps too early to ask, but who would the M’s be calling up to replace his roster spot?

Well, GMZ stated yesterday that it’s likely to be a bullpen arm. Could just be pulling Texeira back off waivers, or maybe calling up someone like Chad Cordero. All just speculation though, I really have no idea.

Thanks Griff. I was hoping they would look at a fresh bat to rotate in the line-up, but they do need arms as well with Lowe still out and the current bullpen not that awe-inspiring. Just not Colome!
