More Cuts

The Mariners made their third round of Spring Training cuts today.

Dustin Ackley – Double-A

Obviously not a big surprise here – no one expected him to make the team out of camp this year. Based on his talent and current level, he’s probably going to breeze through double-A and end up in Tacoma sooner rather than later. If he doesn’t get his first taste of the big leagues later this year, he’ll almost certainly be competing for a job out of camp come 2011.

Dan Cortes – Double-A

No surprise here either. Still young, still very raw, and still has command issues to work out. Still an exciting prospect.

Ezequiel Carrera – Triple-A

Once again, no surprise. Still young, and although he is an interesting prospect with some talent, didn’t have any shot at making this team. Should be interesting to see how he does over a full year in Tacoma.

Edward Paredes, Anthony Varvaro, Ricky Orta – Double-A

All relievers, none of them threw very innings this Spring. One could argue that any of them had an outside chance at edging their way into the big league bullpen. But, yeah, none of them did.
