Thing is, he cut down on his K's by swinging to make contact more often, rather than just trying to pound the stuffing out of the ball. In that case, cutting down on the K's isn't really a good thing. He's a three true outcome guy, and he's only going to kill his career if he tries to change now.

He maybe agreesive but his O-Swing% is below average (17.5%) it's his contact% that is worrisome (77.4%) however, he still maintained a solid 15.3 BB% while cutting down on his k% by 5 percent (36.1%)

I agree he is not and shouldn't be the primary talent but he does things well like hit the ball hard. ISO's over the past three years .177, .245, .248. Yes it did drop by a large amount this year but again, Injuries could have easily brought that about.

Part of his decline has been a more aggressive approach, which obviously takes him away from what made him so valuable. He was more of a free swinger this past season, if I remember correctly. I wonder if being reunited with Wak and Van Burkleo and landing on (another) team that is cool with non-well rounded players as long as they do SOmETHING good (Lopez, Branyan, Ichiro) could get him back on track.

There are better options out there, but possibly a name to tuck away should the M's strike out on the primary targets

I really don't see the big issues with Cust. As a DH would really fit perfect into the idea of having a "power hitter" in the line-up.

We don't have to worry about him playing the field with the guys we have and if we bring Branyan back he have a solid 4-5 guys in the line-up.

Yes, he strikes out but he still is projected to have wOBA of .375 someone that can hit. I'd rather have him hitting than Jose Lopez.

While his value has gone down it's part of it was an injury plagued year and also to him playing the field which has been just simply awful.

He's still an above average hitter. I'm alright with the move.

Just looked at his stats..wow, Cust has fallen off in the last couple of years. That makes me think the Mets really are interested; they have a demonstrated affinity for AL West guys 2-3 years past their peak.
