While I was reflecting on the 2009 season, I discovered these little interesting tidbits.
- Mariano Rivera is a career .667 hitter.
- JJ Putz posted a 2.67 FIP in 2007. David Aardsma posted a 4.29 FIP in 2007. JJ Putz posted a 4.19 FIP in 2009. David Aardsma posted a 3.01 FIP in 2009. JJ Putz cost the Mets Mike Carp and Jason Vargas, and the Indians Franklin Gutierrez. David Aardsma cost the Mariners nothing.
- Raul Ibanez had an 8.0 UZR this year.
- Ricky Nolasco had a 5.06 ERA but a 4.11 tRA in 2009. Let’s hope the Marlins only noticed the former.
- Chone Figgins and Nyjer Morgan were each caught stealing 17 times.
- Jose Lopez grounded into 25 double plays.
- Chase Utley led the majors by being hit by a pitch 24 times. All I can say is, “ouch.”
- Mike Pelfrey had 6 balks and intentionally walked a MLB-leading 8 batters.
- Tim Lincecum gave up only 168 hits in 225.1 innings. That’s a 6.72 H/9 value.
- Doug Davis walked 76 more batters (103) than Joel Piniero (27) in 10.2 less innings.
