Our Team is Weird

AUTHOR: Griffin Cooper | IN: Mariners General | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the current injuries to Russell Branyan, Adrian Beltre, and Ichiro, we’ve been putting out some of the worst lineups I’ve ever seen. We’re incredibly lucky that the brunt of these injuries has come during a homestand featuring the A’s and the Royals. But, even though both of those teams (especially the Royals) are terrible, it still strikes me as somewhat of a minor miracle that we were able to win 5 of our 7 games against them. I mean, here’s the lineup, with wOBA’s, that we put out on Saturday in our 8-4 win over Kansas City.

Preview: LA Angels of blahblahblah @ Seattle

AUTHOR: Harrison Crow | IN: Previews | COMMENTS: None Yet

I hate the Angels, let me just get that out of the way. I hate them so much I really don’t have anything to say about them. I don’t follow them other than standings, they are in so cal which is the pit of evil. Yes, while some will say what about New Orleans or Las Vegas . No  my friends Los Angles is all pure evil, and their team name the “Angels” is just a cover so Satan can continue to manage their team. Yes, that was a Mike Scioscia joke.
Okay while I hate the Angels, you have to [...]

Nickels Is Money Too

AUTHOR: Harrison Crow | IN: Mariners General | COMMENTS: None Yet

Okay, I typed up a mini post yesterday that I chose not to post because, well… I felt that maybe I was making too big of an issue that was really a non-issue.
But, after yesterday I am convinced that we must continue to draw attention to the lack of walks drawn. The Seattle Mariners have drawn only 1 walk between the last two games. Sounds like I’m panicking right? Going back 7 games against KC/Oak the Mariners have only 14 walks in 7 games. Compared to a team like the Angels who have 23 in 7 games while playing Det/Oak. [...]

Our Starting Pitching

AUTHOR: Griffin Cooper | IN: Mariners General | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hey guys – sorry for the lack of activity lately, I’ve been a little bit busy, and a little bit lazy. I’ll get back to at least one post a day now though. So anyway, I missed the game today, but it looks like it was pretty awful. I don’t know what I was expecting with this lineup, missing Branyan, Beltre, and Ichiro, going against Zack Greinke, but getting one hit is pretty bad.
Anyway, one serious problem with this team that I think everyone was noticing in early August, was the inconsistent starting pitching. There was was one stretch in [...]

Sowing Season

AUTHOR: Harrison Crow | IN: Mariners General | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Just before I begin this post know that for no good reason, I am absolutely in love with Michael Saunders. I think this guy is a great left fielder that just hasn’t put things together at the plate just yet. Yet, he is an above average corner out fielder.
If you look at Saunders stats it shows he currently has a wOBA of only .264 in 88 PA. He has 27K/5BB which is disconcerting to say the least. You would immediately start to think that he may need some more time in the minors or that he is yet another bust. But, as [...]

Give Jack Wilson Some Time

AUTHOR: Griffin Cooper | IN: Mariners General | COMMENTS: 8 Comments

Alright, it’s no secret that Jack Wilson has been struggling at the plate since coming to Seattle. He’s hitting .193 with a .223 wOBA in his 16 games here. Because of this, and the fact that Josh Wilson happened to get on a hot streak while Jack was hurt, I’m seeing a lot of criticism of Jack. This is somewhat warranted, as we gave up a lot to get him here, and the rest of this season is somewhat of a test for him, so the front office can decide what they want to do with him for the 2010 [...]

Preview: Kansas City @ Seattle

AUTHOR: Harrison Crow | IN: Previews | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Mariners take on the Kansas City Royals (see how I abstained from a reference in which relates the Royals to stealing our left over’s. No need to come across like Sean Avery) over this weekend. I know big series right? Well if you wanted to see a 3-game winning streak extended these would be the time to go, since we are going to throwing our four best pitchers at them. They have a horrible defense and just as terrible offense, but again there is a reason why we play the games, Right?
Really it’s hard to get excited for games like [...]

Minor League Recap, 8/19-8/25

AUTHOR: Griffin Cooper | IN: Minor Leagues | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Somewhat interesting week… the Aquasox got no hit on Saturday and had a terrible week all around, but the majority of our system played pretty well. A couple of moves – Eric Hull RHP got sent down from Tacoma to West Tenn, Edward Paredes LHP got sent down from West Tenn to High Desert, and OF Dwight Britton got promoted from Pulaski to Clinton. From now on I’ll also be covering the Mariners Arizona Fall League team, as we have a lot of interesting prospects over there.
Here we go.

A’s at Mariners, Game Two Thoughts

AUTHOR: Griffin Cooper | IN: Mariners General | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Since we’re not going to the playoffs anyway, I’m almost at the point where I want us to fall to 10 games back or so in the wild card so people will stop acting like we’re still right in it. I love this team as much as any Mariners fan, and I’d love to see them go to the playoffs as much as any Mariners fan, but we have virtually no chance of winning the wild card, and to be honest I’m a little tired of hearing New York Vinnie act like it’s 1995. Then again, I don’t want the [...]

Russell Branyan Rankings

AUTHOR: Griffin Cooper | IN: Stats | COMMENTS: None Yet

We all know that signing Russell Branyan was an absolute bargain for the Mariners. We signed him for $1.4 million, and based on WAR he’s been worth $11.4 million – and it’s not even September yet. So no matter where he ranks among AL first basemen we should still be extremely happy to have him, but I’ve been curious for quite awhile now as to how he compares to others – and I would assume some of you have too. So let’s take a look at where this 1.4 million dollar journeyman stands. All rankings are among first basemen.
